April 12, 2024 - It was an honour and privilege to present at the 3rd International Symposium on NIRS. I presented some of the work that we do at the NeoCardioLab on NIRS in the research of infants with congenital heart defects. The slides are available here and in the NIRS section. A special thanks to the organizing committee of the POCUSNEO team for their warm invitation and for putting together such a wonderful virtual symposium. Pre-recording of my talk (which is not the same as the one I gave live), is available in the NIRS section. The recording is also available here or through our YouTube Channel.

J'ai présenté une partie des travaux que nous effectuons au NeoCardioLab sur le NIRS dans la recherche sur les nourrissons atteints de malformations cardiaques congénitales. Les diapositives sont disponibles ici et dans la section NIRS. Un merci spécial au comité organisateur de l'équipe POCUSNEO pour sa chaleureuse invitation et pour avoir organisé un si beau symposium virtuel. Le pré-enregistrement de ma conférence (qui n'est pas la même que celle que j'ai donnée en direct), est disponible dans la section NIRS. April 9, 2024 - We had a wonderful time at the "Tiny Survivor" event hosted by the Just for Kids Foundation. Alongside Dr. Jarred Garfinkle and Dr. Michelle Ryan, we attended this fundraising evening held at Espace Gare Viger. The proceeds from the event will go towards funding equipment for the neonatal intensive care unit at the Montreal Children's Hospital. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Just for Kids Foundation for their ongoing support of the NICU, as well as to all the participants and donors. Your contributions make a significant difference. It is worth noting that the Just for Kids Foundation supported the NeoCardioLab in acquiring the echocardiography machine in 2018.

9 avril 2024 - Nous avons passé un merveilleux moment à l'événement "Tiny Survivor" organisé par la Fondation pour enfants seulement. Aux côtés du Dr. Jarred Garfinkle et du Dre. Michelle Ryan, nous avons assisté à cette soirée de collecte de fonds qui s'est déroulée à l'Espace Gare Viger. Les bénéfices de cet événement serviront à financer du matériel pour l'unité de soins intensifs néonatals de l'hôpital de Montréal pour enfants. Je tiens à remercier personnellement la Fondation pour enfants seulement pour son soutien continu à l'unité de soins intensifs néonatals, ainsi que tous les participants et donateurs. Vos contributions font une grande différence. Il est également important de souligner que la Fondation pour enfants seulement a soutenu le NeoCardioLab dans l'acquisition de la machine d'échocardiographie en 2018.

March 1st 2024: The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology at McGill University and the Montreal Children’s Hospital invites applicants for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff, as an academic clinician neonatologist, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The successful candidate’s mandate will include a major clinical and educational participation in our neonatal hemodynamics and TnECHO (targeted neonatal echocardiography) program, while ensuring its ongoing development.  In addition, the candidate may be expected to eventually take on the directorship of the neonatal hemodynamics fellowship training program. Of note, this can be an intent to pursue further training in TnECHO-Neonatal Hemodynamics prior to permanently joining our division. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, including the training of neonatal nurse practitioner students, medical students, and residents. Other responsibilities may include participation in academic and administrative committees, such as the fetal diagnostic and treatment group and the neonatal cardiology academic rounds. Of note, bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. March 1st, 2024 - A few pictures and memories from the wonderful Bangkok International Neonatal Symposium 2024 (pre-congress workshop and conference), and the Meet the Expert 2024 in Hua Hin, Thailand. This was such a wonderful conference! Thanks to the organizing committee, with a special thanks to Dr Ratchada (Annie) Kitsommart, Dr Punnanee (Fuze) Wutthigate, Dr Sarayut Supapannachart, Dr Richard Martin, the Neonatal Thai Society, all the participants and the incredible welcome from everyone in Thailand.

Le 20 février 2024 : Ce fut vraiment un honneur d'avoir eu l'opportunité de présenter lors du Bankgok International Neonatology Symposium 2024. L'atelier pré-congrès portant sur l'échocardiographie néonatale ciblée (TNE) s'est tenu les 19 et 20 février 2024. J'adresse mes sincères remerciements au comité d'organisation pour leur invitation, leur hospitalité et leur planification méticuleuse. Le premier jour du symposium comprenait des séances immersives sur les compétences pratiques en échographie et des discussions de cas captivantes. February 5th, 2024 - It is truly an honour and priviledge to be part of the Bangkok International Neonatology Symposium 2024. The pre-congress workshop will be on: "Targeted neonatal hemodynamic conference: pre-congress workshop". The organizing committee has put together a wonderful pre-conference workshop, with fantastic speakers: Dr. Patrick McNamara, Dr. Danielle Rios, Dr. Koert A. de Waal, Dr. Punnanee Wutthigate, Dr. Trassanee Chatmethakul and Dr. Pasinee Kanaprach. I will be presenting one presentation on ECHO measurements, for which I have prepared a guide that I make available here and also available under the TnECHO section. Thank you for the organizing committee for this wonderful invitation.

13 janvier 2024 : Le 12 janvier, nous avons eu le plaisir de visiter le Musée médical Maude Abbott. J'exprime ma gratitude à la Dre Marie J. Béland, qui nous a généreusement guidés lors de cette visite et a animé une séance d'enseignement exceptionnelle pour notre fellow en hémodynamie néonatale à l'Université McGill, ainsi que pour ceux en imagerie avancée en cardiologie pédiatrique et cardiologie pédiatrique interventionnelle. La Dre Béland, membre du conseil d'administration et membre fondateur de la Société internationale de nomenclature de la cardiologie pédiatrique et congénitale (ISNPCHD), est une cardiologue pédiatrique avec une profondeur de connaissance inégalée. Elle a été mon enseignante tout au long de mes études de médecine, de ma résidence et de ma spécialisation. Expert en électrophysiologie, elle possède une connaissance et une expérience complètes de la cardiologie fœtale et pédiatrique (elle sait tout !). Actuellement, elle est "fellow" H-KAP (programme Helen Karounis Agora) à l'Université McGill, et la Dre Béland partage généreusement son temps et son expertise. L'expérience d'apprentissage avec la Dre Béland a été enrichissante et incroyable, car elle a présenté un aperçu du cheminement vers une nomenclature unifiée des malformations cardiaques congénitales, en abordant les notions de base de l'anatomie/morphologie cardiaque et de la terminologie appropriée. Nous avons également eu l'occasion d'examiner certains cas anatomiques conservés au Musée médical Maude Abbott. Merci à la Dre Béland pour cette séance exceptionnelle et enrichissante, et j'attends avec impatience d'autres expériences d'apprentissage avec vous dans un avenir proche. January 13th, 2024: More on Dr Abbott: Maude Abbott (1869–1940) was a Canadian physician, pathologist, and medical historian. She is best known for her significant contributions to the field of pathology, particularly in the study of congenital heart disease. Abbott played a crucial role in establishing the field of pediatric pathology in Canada. Abbott's work in documenting and classifying congenital heart defects has had a lasting impact on the understanding and treatment of heart conditions in children. Her influential work, "Atlas of Congenital Cardiac Disease," published in 1936, remains an important reference in the field. In addition to her contributions to medicine, Maude Abbott was a trailblazer for women in the sciences. She faced challenges and discrimination as a woman pursuing a career in medicine during a time when it was not common. Despite these obstacles, she became the first woman to be appointed as a professor at McGill University in Montreal. Maude Abbott's legacy extends beyond her lifetime, and she is remembered for her pioneering work in pathology and her role in advancing medical knowledge, especially in the area of congenital heart disease.

13 janvier 2024: Davantage sur Dre Abbott: Maude Abbott (1869–1940) était une médecin, pathologiste et historienne de la médecine canadienne. Elle est surtout connue pour ses contributions significatives dans le domaine de la pathologie, en particulier dans l'étude des malformations cardiaques congénitales. Abbott a joué un rôle crucial dans l'établissement de la pathologie pédiatrique au Canada. Son travail dans la documentation et la classification des malformations cardiaques congénitales a eu un impact durable sur la compréhension et le traitement des affections cardiaques chez les enfants. Son œuvre influente, "Atlas of Congenital Cardiac Disease," publiée en 1936, demeure une référence importante dans le domaine. En plus de ses contributions à la médecine, Maude Abbott a été une pionnière pour les femmes dans les sciences. Elle a fait face à des défis et à des discriminations en tant que femme poursuivant une carrière en médecine à une époque où cela n'était pas courant. January 12th, 2024: We updated the normative values section and included a section on neonatal hypertension. As well, updated the content on the inotropic support and added antihypertensive medications.

January 10th, 2024: New wonderful presentation prepared by Laila Wazneh and Kathryn Jones, both neonatal nurse practitioners at the Montreal Children's Hospital. This presentation was prepared in the context of the neonatal cardiology academic case rounds at McGill University, in collaboration with Dr Tiscar Cavalle (pediatric cardiologist at the Montreal Children's Hospital). The presentation was on Tetralogy of Fallot. You can now access the slides, as well as our local algorithm for the management of TET spells through the section on Tetralogy of Fallot. 

10 janvier 2024 : Nouvelle magnifique présentation préparée par Laila Wazneh et Kathryn Jones, toutes deux infirmières praticiennes néonatales à l'hôpital de Montréal pour enfants. Cette présentation a été préparée dans le cadre des séries de cas académiques en cardiologie néonatale à l'Université McGill, en collaboration avec la Dre Tiscar Cavalle (cardiologue pédiatrique à l'hôpital de Montréal pour enfants). January 9th, 2024: In the context of our collaborations in the SARABI study and the At Heart of the Matter study, we created modules in french and english to train in knobology (for our echocardiography machine), as well as for the sequence of image acquisition in adults that we recruit within these projects. These modules are for training the imaging technologists that are integrating our team for the acquisition of images in these participants. The videos are available here, and on the respective page of these studies.
