Dr. Nina Nouraeyan is a neonatologist at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal with a clinical focus on advancing point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in neonatal care. She specializes in lung ultrasound and neonatal echocardiography, using bedside imaging to support earlier diagnosis, more precise monitoring, and individualized treatment strategies for extremely preterm infants — particularly in the context of evolving bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and cardiopulmonary instability. She is strongly committed to POCUS education and system integration. Dr. Nouraeyan has developed structured neonatal POCUS teaching materials, introduced a lung-ultrasound–first approach for trainees, and created simulation-based programs that enhance bedside imaging skills and team performance during high-risk neonatal events. Her broader clinical initiatives include respiratory-care optimization, surfactant-delivery improvements, thermoregulation strategies, and multiple NICU patient-safety projects. Dr. Nouraeyan is currently designing a neonatal leadership curriculum within her International Masters in Health Leadership (IMHL) at McGill University. The curriculum is anchored in the Competence by Design (CBD) framework and aims to modernize how leadership skills are taught and assessed during neonatal-perinatal fellowship training. In her previous role as Program Director for the McGill Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine training program, she advanced curriculum modernization, strengthened EPA-based assessment, and championed leadership and QI integration within subspecialty education. Across her clinical, educational, and QI work, Dr. Nouraeyan is recognized for her collaborative, system-focused approach and her commitment to advancing neonatal care through thoughtful innovation, imaging excellence, and multidisciplinary partnership.
Émilie Filion-Ouellet is a neonatologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital at the MUHC. She first obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Université Laval before completing her doctorate in medicine at the same institution. After starting a residency in psychiatry, she reoriented her career towards pediatrics, completing her residency at McGill University. She then pursued a subspecialty in neonatology at Université de Montréal, at CHU Sainte-Justine. Since 2022, she has been practicing at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, where she focuses on the development and implementation of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) within the NICU. She is concurrently pursuing a master’s degree in medical education to improve teaching of the use of POCUS.
