L'histoire de Massimo, Priyanka et Anthony
Massimo was born at 24 weeks and was admitted to the neonatal intensive care. Massimo spent 6 months at the Montreal Children's Hospital. His parents, Antony and Priyanka, generously shared with us their story. They are providing some family insights on prematurity, NICU stay and how important the contribution of the family is in the team at the bedside. Massimo participated in a research project at the NeoCardioLab (Principal Investigator: Gabriel Altit) on pulmonary hypertension in preterm infants. At discharge, he had only mild pulmonary hypertension discovered on the research echocardiography and was referred in cardiology, as well as followed in the research program. He was found, after discharge from the NICU, to have significant pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the vessels of the lungs) with secondary heart dysfunction. He was re-hospitalized and required further investigations and treatment. Despite this drawback, he recovered nicely and now he has back to his baseline - a joyful and curious baby, full of life. His parents generously shared their story, as well as pictures. We are hopeful that the story of Massimo and his parents will inspire families that are potentially living similar challenges and a NICU stay. The perspective of families is extremely important and this interview was made to bring the perspective and experience of one family to others. Massimo est né à 24 semaines et a été admis aux soins intensifs néonataux. Massimo a passé 6 mois à l'hôpital de Montréal pour enfants. Ses parents, Antony et Priyanka, ont généreusement partagé avec nous leur histoire. Ils fournissent leur perspective sur la prématurité, leur séjour à l'USIN et l'importance de la contribution de la famille dans l'équipe au chevet du patient. Massimo a participé à un projet de recherche au NeoCardioLab (Chercheur principal: Gabriel Altit) sur l'hypertension pulmonaire chez les prématurés. À sa sortie de l'hôpital, il n'avait qu'une légère hypertension pulmonaire découverte sur l'échocardiographie de recherche et a été référé en cardiologie, ainsi que suivi dans notre programme de recherche. Après sa sortie de l'USIN, une hypertension pulmonaire importante a été diagnostiquée (pression artérielle élevée dans les vaisseaux des poumons) avec une atteinte de la fonction cardiaque. Il a été réhospitalisé et a dû faire l'objet d'investigations et de traitements supplémentaires. Malgré cet inconvénient, il a bien récupéré et est maintenant revenu à sa base - un bébé joyeux et curieux, plein de vie. Ses parents ont généreusement partagé leur histoire, ainsi que des photos. Nous espérons que l'histoire de Massimo et de ses parents inspirera les familles qui vivent potentiellement des défis similaires et un séjour à l'USIN. Le point de vue des familles est extrêmement important et cet entretien a été réalisé pour apporter le point de vue et l'expérience d'une famille à d'autres.
